Edith Parvin Hayllar (1860–1948) was a British artist who painted Victorian genre scenes.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://clara.nmwa.org/index.php?g=entity_detail&entity_id=3572 )〕 She learned painting from her father, James Hayllar who also taught her three sisters Jessica, Kate and Mary. Edith is considered the most successful of the sisters as she exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, the Institute of Oil Painters, and the Dudley Gallery. Her painting ''A Summer Shower'' was shown at the Royal Academy in 1893. It depicts a tennis party taking shelter from the rain and was called "one of the most charming genre scenes of the nineteenth century." She quit painting when she married Rev. Bruce MacKay in approximately 1900.〔Harris, Ann Sutherland; Nochlin, Linda. ''Women Artists: 1550-1950''. Los Angeles County Museum of Art: 1976, p. 258.〕 ==References==
